Merche Mar

Merche Mar, that hosted El Molino since the reopening at 2010 until 2017, was the last great cabaret star at El Molino of the XX century, where she started his career in 1965 until 1997, when El Molino closed.

Educated in a convent school where she gained knowledge in ballet and piano, Merche Mar made her debut at El Molino playing the accordion at the age of thirteen, after passing the singing, dancing and performing auditions. There she shared the stage with the legendary artists Johnson and Escamillo.

She performed in dozens of shows like “Blondes and Brunettes,” “The flute of the Pharaoh”, “Kiss me anywhere”, “Up the skirt!” , “Viva El Molino” , “The naughty molineras” , “Taxi to El Molino”, “Always El Molino.” When El Molino closed in November 1997, Merche Mar was participating in the last show represented there, “Pluma y Peineta”.

In 2005 she published her memoirs: “El Molino, stories of a star” (Ed. Arcopress) in which she recounts her experiences at the legendary venue in the Parallel. It is a valuable document for nostalgia and for those who want to read about a part of history of Barcelona.
